Welcome

Hello!

Pasfoto Jules SteevensWelcome to my personal webpage dedicated to presenting my personal interests, activities and capabilities to the outside world. My name is Jules Steevens, a dutch resident of Utrecht (The Netherlands) and a Master of Science in Technology and Society.

A small introduction to the website and the domain. The domain was originally setup to facilitate my company in which I perfom part-time IT activities for several small size firms. Because of the fact that the company doesn't need any web promotion there still is no main website, maybe it will be created when my search for employment takes too long. In the left column several sub-websites can be found, like my weblog and personal photo-album.

Personal introduction

For the sake of context I would like to share a brief piece of my educational history and current activities. After spending five years at high school in Weert (Limburg) I started studying Information Technology (HBO) at Fontys Universities in Eindhoven. Information Technology went pretty well and I've finished that education in exactly four years (2001). At that time I realised that I was way too young (21) to spoil my time with leased cars, free laptops, big salary and a mortgage and . Furthermore, I was not interested in the hardcore informatics (designing and coding) but more in the higher level influence on and meaning off technology. My second education became Technology and Society with a major in Technology and Innovation Policy. In October 2005 I finished my masters thesis on the subject of protecting internet users against phishing. The latter means that I can call myself from now a Master of Science in Technology and Society.

I decided during my graduation research that I wanted to go backpacking after my graduation. The destination became Australasia and in specific New Zealand. I am leaving 25 November and will spend approximately five months down under after which I will throw myself with renewed energie and enthousiasm on finding a nice job.

Finding a job sounds like quite a simple task but it isn't. First you need to know what you would like to do for the coming years and then find a company that's willing to accomodate you. Well, I've figured out the first thing already quite a bit. In my graduation research I reaslised that internet technology and security related policy issues are attracting me very much so this will be the main topic I will be aiming at. But this will be of major concern in april 2006...
